Production Techniques

The web site will be developed using a mixture of industry standard development tools and hand code, ensuring cross-browser compatibility and allowing for implementation of new technology and/or third party information provision in the future.

Website Browser Compatibility

Different browser types and versions support different functionality. Based on the statistics shown we design sites that are wholly compatible to version 5.0 browsers and above. Version 4.x browsers may sometimes experience very minor display problems (such as incorrect font formatting). Most text-only browsers will be able to read the bulk of text content and ALT tags (which describe pictures and graphics) to users.

Screen Resolution Compatibility

The screen resolution on an individual computer effects the amount of information a user can see on the screen at any one time, without having to scroll down or across the web page. Based on current statistics we design for an ideal average screen size of 800 x 600 pixels, although the website will work on larger and smaller screens, higher and lower screen resolutions.

Flash Development

We will use industry standard Macromedia Flash tools to develop the Flash content for the site.

• Choice of Flash “sniffer” . If Macromedia Flash™ is not available on the users browser, the Urban Horizon sniffer will either:
  • automatically download and install the latest Flash plugin OR
  • display a static JEG or GIF graphic in place of the Flash animation
• Flash animation can be provided with an indication of loading time remaining
• With a Flash Intro or Splash page, it will provide a “skip” button if the user does not which to watch the animation

Database Development

The site will most likely be developed using either Macromedia Coldfusion, PHP, JSP or similar middleware software and an SQL database – ensuring stability, reliability, and scalability. We use a mix of industry standard development tools and hand coding, ensuring cross-browser compatibility and the future portability of your website, should the need arise.
